Other reviewers have said it but let me add my vote: This is the best Christmas recording ever. In particular, his version of "Christmastime is Here" is achingly beautiful. My favorite, though, is a previously unrecorded gem he wrote called "The Christmas Feeling." It is a true classic: simple, understated and memorable, where every note and chord is exactly right. It deserves to be played alongside his more traditional hit, "The Christmas Song." It's every bit as good, maybe better.
The velvet Fog will keep your Christmas Spirit bright and this is just the recording to do it. This Recording is/has Big Band, Swing, etc. yet has that traditional feel to it; afterall it was Mel Torme who wrote the Christmas Classic "The Christmas Song"
This has to be one of the very best Christmas albums (cd's) to come out in the past several years. Tony Bennett's latest Xmas effort is very well done, but this Mel Torme cd is even better. Although this was made toward the end of Mel's career, the singing is fine and so are the arrangements. Everything on it is well done, but especially The Christmas Song (which of course he co-wrote), Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Silver Bells, and especially the beautiful and haunting Christmastime is Here.Do yourself a favor; if you're looking for a GREAT, traditional Christmas with great songs and great singing, this is the one.
Mel Delivers again. Smooth and jazzy as appropriate. Always a pleasure to hear his voice. Many of the young "crooners" of today owe a lot to his talent.
My husband was always waiting for Mel's version of "The Christmas Song" to play on the radio.which it rarely did. He can now hear this and many other wonderful Christmas pieces whenever he wants. A GREAT CD.
